Transmission Line Workers

Project Description

Dominion Energy South Carolina contractors will replace existing wooden poles along this 12-mile corridor with self-supporting galvanized steel structures. Both transmission lines are contained in the same right of way and will be consolidated to one single pole line during the rebuild. The new line will meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability and resiliency to the surrounding communities.

Location

The project will connect Edgefield and McCormick counties, beginning in Georgia at Dominion Energy’s Stevens Creek Generation Plant. From there, the line crosses the Savannah River to South Carolina and stretches through the Sumter National Forest into the Meriwether community. At Meriwether, the line crosses S.C. Highway 28 and terminates at the existing Clark Hill Switching Station on Clarks Hill Highway.

Timeframe

The engineering design and environmental permitting began in the first quarter of 2022 and will continue throughout the year. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2023 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

To ensure a safe and efficient work zone, traffic control may be required at road crossings.
