Power lines against a blue sky

Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is beginning a new electric power line project in eastern Aiken County to continue to meet the demand for safe and reliable energy in the region. The project will require the acquisition of new right-of-way easements, the installation of a new substation and construction of a new 115 kV line. Once installed, this system enhancement will provide necessary upgrades in the area to facilitate increased electrical reliability and improved flow of power across the electrical grid.

Route Selection and Right of Way Acquisition:

Because this project requires the acquisition of new rights of way, Dominion Energy South Carolina will conduct a siting study to determine the optimal route for the lines to be sited. During the siting study, Dominion Energy will host two public workshops to solicit input and feedback from the public to factor into the study. Additionally, a third-party consulting firm will analyze a number of different routes and various environmental and visual impacts to factor into the final route. After the siting study is complete, Dominion Energy will choose the optimal route and notify the impacted property owners to begin the right-of-way acquisition process.

Location:

The 115 kV project will be built in Aiken County. While the exact route will be selected at a future date, the new line will run from a new substation near Wagener and connect into an existing power line approximately five miles northwest of the town.

Timeframe:

The siting work began in the second quarter of 2023. A public workshop was held August 10, 2023. The public will have an opportunity to learn more about the project, meet with our project team and ask questions related to the study.

The August 10 workshop was a drop-in, open-house style event, from 3-7 p.m. at:

First Baptist Church, Wagener
132 Main Street N.
Wagener, SC 29164

A second public workshop will be held in 2024. The final route should be determined after the meeting. At that point, the right of way acquisition process will begin.
