At Dominion Energy, we are committed to providing safe and reliable energy to the communities we serve. Our proactive year-round inspection and maintenance program has identified an electric transmission line that requires replacement. This seven-mile enhancement to the Cainhoy-Hamlin 115 kV line will be rebuilt exclusively on existing rights of way.

Project Description

Dominion Energy South Carolina contractors will replace existing wooden poles along this seven-mile corridor with self-supporting galvanized steel structures. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability and resiliency to the areas along the route. Dominion Energy will also expand the existing Hamlin electrical substation located off of Porchers Bluff Road in Mt Pleasant.

The project will connect the Cainhoy and Hamlin substations in Charleston County. The line stretches south from the Cainhoy substation near Clements Ferry Road, crossing the Wando River near Shipyard Park. The line then runs southeast through the Dunes West neighborhood before crossing U.S. Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant and terminating at the Hamlin substation off Porchers Bluff Road. ton Parkway and Buckwalter Parkway, terminating at the existing Bluffton substation on Burnt Church Road.

While most of the line is away from heavily traversed areas, there may be occasional traffic control set up at roads crossings as Dominion Energy and its contractors ensure the work is completed safely and effectively.

The engineering design and environmental permitting began in the first quarter of 2022 and will continue throughout the year. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2024 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.

To ensure a safe and efficient work zone, traffic control may be required at road crossings.
