Purpose

After being in operation for several decades, an aging electric transmission line in the Beaufort area needs to be rebuilt. This rebuilt project is approximately six miles and will be done exclusively on existing right of way in our transmission corridor.

We will replace the existing 115 kilovolt (kV) wooden poles along this corridor with self-supporting galvanized steel structures. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability and resiliency to the areas along the route. The rebuilt lines will be constructed by Dominion Energy contractors.

Benefits

  • Maintains current right of way
  • New structures located in the same general location as existing structures
  • Complies with mandatory standards to ensure safety, reliability and to meet future needs
  • Minimizes impact on the community and environment
  • Replaces aging infrastructure

Timeline

The engineering design and environmental permitting began in the summer of 2020 and will continue through 2021. Line construction is expected to start in the 1st quarter of 2024 and will continue into the 3rd quarter of 2024.
