Due to rapid growth and local comprehensive planning, Dominion Energy is placing a portion of an existing overhead 230 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line underground and constructing a new substation source in the Tysons area of Fairfax County.
This project will underground an existing overhead transmission line between our Tysons Substation on Tyco Road to a new transition pole just south of the future Spring Hill Substation southwest of Leesburg Pike and Spring Hill Road in Fairfax County.
The 230 kilovolt (kV) line is approximately half-mile in length and is consistent with Fairfax County’s Comprehensive Plan and responds to 2019 undergrounding pilot legislation.
Important Update - Late May, 2023
In order to install our second and final manhole for the project, the Vesper Trail will be closed around our work area beginning Friday morning, June 2, 2023. Crews will work throughout the weekend (day and night) to complete this work. We anticipate reopening the trail Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
