Financial Assistance for Those in Need
EnergyShare® is an energy assistance program of last resort that helps people who are having trouble paying their energy bills. Help is available year-round, regardless of income. The program can also provide free home energy upgrades to help you use less energy.
How Does It Work
EnergyShare® can help in two ways:
EnergyShare® helps with energy bills for any type of heating or cooling (oil, natural gas, kerosene, propane, wood, and electricity).
You may be eligible if you:
- Live in Dominion Energy's service area.
- Have received a disconnection notice.
- Need your service reconnected.
- Need help keeping your payment plan.
- Have received a Budget Billing removal notice.
Local agencies look at applications and decide who is eligible. If approved, the payment is sent directly to your energy company.
Help is available all year:

- If you're 60 years of age and older, you may qualify for help more often.
- Military veterans and people with disabilities may qualify for an extra $500. To qualify you must be enrolled in an approved voucher program through one of these organizations:
- Virginia Department of Veterans Services
- Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services' Centers for Independent Living
Apply
To apply, you can find your local EnergyShare® agency by calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211virginia.org. You can also view this list for your agency's contact information.
You may also be able to get a free home energy assessment. A contractor will visit your home and recommend weatherization tips, and ways to help you use less energy and lower your energy costs.
Upgrades are based on your checkup and may include:
- LED light bulbs
- Low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators
- Attic/floor insulation
- Heat pump or air conditioner tune-ups
- Air and duct sealing
- Hot water tank and pipe wrap insulation
You may qualify if you:
- Are a Dominion Energy customer.
- Have received bill payment help.
How to Donate
EnergyShare® is supported by Dominion Energy and the donations of employees, customers, and community partners. You can help support local families by making a donation using one of the options below.
Online Account
If you are a Dominion Energy customer, sign in to your account. Select "Billing" at the top of the page, and then "Donate to EnergyShare®." Then select "Make a Donation." Your donation will appear on your next bill.

EnergyShare® agencies can access Dominion Energy customer account information to find an applicant's account status, billing and payment history, and make pledges.
