Follow the simple steps below to ensure power is turned on when you need it. You will need to gather some required information outlined in Step 1 before starting the process and setting up a work request.

Step 1: Getting Started

Gather the following information to set up your Work Request.

  • Legal name of company
  • Name, address, and phone number for an officer and registered agent of the company
  • Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  • Contact phone number
  • Mailing address
  • A Dominion Energy service account number is required for builders.
  • ZIP code for that account (not mailing address)
  • 4-digit PIN or last 4 digits of TIN or SSN listed on Dominion Energy account 
  • Be prepared: Review Requirements Documentation below.

Once your work request is created, a designer will contact you within 3 business days to get more details about your request. The designer will review site readiness, the approved site plan, electrical load letter and the proposed location of your meter.

Step 2: Determine Service Needs

Dominion Energy will visit the property to decide electric service needs.

You will need to:

  • Download and fill out residential or non-residential load letter.
  • Check that metering and electrical requirements are met (Refer to The Blue Book).
  • Contact the local county or city building inspector’s office to determine permitting and inspection requirements.
  • Make sure the items are completed on the Site Ready Checklist.

Step 3: Working Together

Prepare site and complete all requirements before installation can begin.

Dominion Energy will:

  • Determine if there are applicable charges.
  • Prepare the design and any necessary documents, such as Underground Agreements or Easements.

Step 4: Connect Service

Once requirements are met, project turned over to Dominion Energy’s construction team.

Dominion Energy will:

  • Email you with the name and phone number of your Dominion Energy construction point of contact and an estimated job completion date. This information will also be posted online.
  • Contact Miss Utility if digging is required. This process may take up to 72 hours.  

*Keep in mind: Construction schedules can vary depending on the size and type of work. External factors like bad weather, emergencies or outages may affect the schedule.
