How Much Does It Cost To Charge An EV?

The cost of charging your EV depends on how much you drive. For customers who drive less than 40 miles a day, it costs about $1 per day to charge at home. Your electric bill will likely go up, but your monthly gasoline expenses should drop considerably more.

What Kind Of EV Is Right For You?

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles have an electric motor AND gas-powered internal combustion engine. Some PHEVs operate exclusively, or almost exclusively, on electricity until the battery is nearly depleted. Then, the gasoline-powered engine turns on to provide the power. Like Battery Electric Vehicles, PHEVs can be plugged in to charge the battery when the vehicle is not in use.

Battery-Electric Vehicles

Battery Electric Vehicles have a battery and an electric motor, instead of a gas tank and internal combustion engine. They run entirely on electricity and do not produce any exhaust from the burning of fuel. Because they don't have a combustion engine, BEVs have reduced maintenance requirements and increased storage capacity onboard. 

EV Maintenance

EVs require less maintenance than conventional vehicles, helping save you time and money.

  • No oil changes: EVs do not use engine oil, so they have no need for oil changes normally required.
  • No spark plugs and wires: EVs do not require spark plugs and wires, which are typically replaced every 100,000 miles in gas-powered vehicles.
  • No exhaust system: EVs do not have mufflers or catalytic converters - two components of conventional vehicle systems that can fail and require replacement.
  • No emissions testing: EVs do not burn fossil fuels, so they do not emit byproducts that need to be tested.
