The generic load profiles for each customer class are provided in .csv files that can be easily downloaded to a personal computer for further analysis. Each file represents a separate annual profile for a specific customer segment. When using any of the Historic Profiles provided below, you may use the data as presented, or you may choose to either weather normalize it using your own software, or to exclude the demand data from all or part of that time frame.

The profile for any customer with an interval data recorder, as required for billing, is developed from their specific customer load pattern. Only when a customer does not have any historical usage will they receive a generic profile as determined by the annual load research class studies. In this case, the assigned generic rate class profile is scaled to reflect the customer's actual usage as meters are read. Once the customer accumulates sufficient usage, its load profile will be used in forecasting and preliminary settlement. The customer's actual metered usage will always be used for final settlement.

It should be noted that non-jurisdictional and Commonwealth of Virginia tariffs are not provided due to their confidential nature.

Julian Look-Up and Deemed Profiles Overview

LIGHTING Profile
This deemed profile assumes about 4,000 hours annual lighting use for residential watch lights and street light customers. This profile is applied as a Julian date profile as the hours of darkness increase through the fall and the winter then decrease in the Spring/ summer. The profile consists of “0” when lights are deemed “off” and “1” when lights are deemed to be “on.” To develop a leap-year version of this file simply repeat the on/off pattern for February 28 for February 29.

FLATONE Profile
This deemed profile is used for loads that are considered to be regularly “on” all of the time, such as traffic control. This profile consists of all “1” for every hour. To develop a leap-year version of this file simply repeat the final row to create a 366th observation.

FLATZERO Profile
This deemed profile is used for loads that are forecast to be regularly “off” all (or nearly all) of the time, such as curtailable load and standby generation. This profile consists of all “0” for every hour. To develop a leap-year version of this file simply repeat the final row to create a 366th observation.

The load profiles are periodically reviewed to ensure they remain representative. Please note that we reserve the right to update profiles, as we deem appropriate. The load profiles provided were created on September 9, 2004 and posted on our Web site on September 16, 2004. Please be aware that on September 18, 2003, the Dominion Energy service territory was hard hit by hurricane Isabel, producing widespread and extended outages. Power restoration was fully completed within two weeks. The Historic Profiles provided have been normalized by simply replacing the unusual "Isabel load" for September 18-October 1, 2003 with normal class load from September 11-17, 2003. Profiles generated using the Weather Response Function (regression analysis) were prepared using historical load and weather data from January 1, 2000 through August 31, 2003, thereby excluding that unusual time period.
