NC GreenPower is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing clean energy technologies and promoting environmental awareness throughout North Carolina. Its mission is to drive positive change through community-focused initiatives and educational opportunities.
How They Contribute:
- Renewable Energy Projects: They support local projects that generate clean, renewable energy and offset carbon emissions. Your involvement helps reduce our overall carbon footprint.
- Educational Grants: Through the NC GreenPower Solar+ Schools Program, they offer grants for solar panel installations at K-12 schools in the state's most economically challenged areas, enhancing students' learning experiences.
How You Can Get Involved (Sign Up Below)
- Apply for Solar+ Schools Grant: Applications for the Solar+ Schools grant are accepted annually. For more information, visit www.ncgreenpower.org/solar-schools.
- Make a Contribution: Your donations support the expansion of renewable energy and educational initiatives across the state. Contributions also help fund carbon offset projects that combat climate change.
- Purchase RECs or Carbon Offsets: By purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) or carbon offsets, you help support green energy projects and carbon reduction efforts in North Carolina.
Impact of Your Support
- Renewable Energy: Contributions ensure that local green energy producers are compensated for their work, adding clean energy to North Carolina's power grid. While this energy might not directly power your home, it benefits the entire state.
- Carbon Offsets: Donations fund projects that reduce greenhouse gases, improving air quality and supporting local job creation.

Renewable Energy and Carbon Offset Options
Renewable Energy and Solar+ Schools
(most residential and small commercial customers)
- Support Green Power: With a $4 contribution, NC GreenPower pays a premium to local generators producing renewable energy from sources like solar, wind, and organic matter.
- What Your Donation Achieves: Each $4 donation adds 125 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy to North Carolina's electric grid, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. It also supports grants for educational solar installations at K-12 schools across the state.
- Annual Impact: A monthly $4 donation supports 1,500 kWh of green power annually – that's more than five weeks of typical residential energy use and the environmental benefit of planting eight trees!

Clean Energy Supporter
(for larger customers)
- Flexible Options: Larger customers can support energy from a diverse range of sources, including solar and biomass, at a reduced rate of $2.50 per 250 kWh block. A minimum commitment of 40 blocks (or $100) per month is required.
- Get Started: To become a Clean Energy Supporter or for more information, contact NC GreenPower at 919-857-9010 or vmccann@ncgreenpower.org.
Carbon Offsets

- Support Local Projects: Each $4 contribution supports local carbon offset projects in the NC/SC/VA region, including methane capture from landfills or animal waste, reforestation, and efforts to prevent deforestation.
- Impact of Your Donation: Each $4 donation mitigates 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide or equivalent emissions. Over a year, a monthly $4 donation offsets 12,000 pounds of greenhouse gases – equivalent to the emissions from a car traveling 13,923 miles or planting 60 trees!
