What are the Benefits?

Electric Vehicles (EVs) Cost Less to Operate than Gas Powered Cars

Depending on your local gasoline and electric rates, EV operation can be 3 to 5 times cheaper than gasoline and diesel-powered cars. All-electric models do not use oil; thus they do not need oil changes!

EVs are Environmentally Friendly

EVs have no tailpipe emissions. While the power plant producing your electricity may produce emissions, electricity from hydroelectric, solar, nuclear, or wind-powered plants is generally emission-free.

Never Go to the Gas Station Again

EVs do not require gasoline and can be charged at home with a standard 120V outlet or a 240V level 2 charger can be installed for faster charging.

EV Driving Range & Recharge Time

EV driving range varies from around 80 to over 330 miles on a full charge, depending on the model. The average American's daily round-trip commute is less than 30 miles. Fully recharging the battery pack can take 4 to 8 hours, while a “fast charge” to 80% capacity can take as little as 30 minutes.

Charging at Home

Charging your electric vehicle at home is inexpensive and convenient. All EVs come with a charging cord that can plug into a standard outlet in your garage or driveway. If you would like to install a Level 2 charger, refer to the Handbook for Residential EV Charging.

Electric Vehicle Pricing Plans Pilot Program (Closed)

We launched the Electric Vehicle Pricing Plans Pilot Program to study the impacts of EV charging on the grid. The pilot program began in 2011 and ended November 30, 2018. Enrollment is now closed but current participants may remain on the pricing plans. We will use the results of the pilot to evaluate future EV-related offerings for customers.
