Volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club

For Dominion Energy Business Development Manager Todd Flowers, giving back to his local community is a personal mission. For the past 15 years, he has identified deserving organizations in our service territory and rallied his team to help address their needs.

This year, he is bringing his passion for community and more than a dozen Dominion Energy employees from a range of departments to volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck on August 12. The work of these employees and donated items will go a long way toward getting this important community center back in action after a tragic incident.

In November of 2018, the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck experienced a fire that destroyed its clubhouse. Last January, they welcomed the youth into their new, light-filled spaces. Although they are tremendously excited to be back in operation with a state-of-the-art facility, the work is not yet finished.

This Dominion Energy Employees in Action volunteer event will complete several needed projects at the facility to help the organization welcome youth back to their afterschool programs, including:

  • Assembly of benches at the basketball court area
  • Assembly of hands-free sanitizing stations
  • Construction and installation of bookcases and stock shelves for teen center
  • Preparation of raised garden beds for fall vegetable planting
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of buses used for student pick-up after school
  • Installation of parking lot safety blocks

“Partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck has been a very special project for me,” says Todd. “As a resident of nearby White Stone, I know firsthand the good work this organization does in my community. I’m thrilled we can be a part of helping them return to their mission: to enable the youth of Lancaster and Northumberland counties to reach their full potential by providing a safe haven where they can discover their futures and develop healthy lifestyles.”

These employee volunteer events are made possible thanks to Dominion Energy’s Energizing Communities program, which makes up to $2500 available to employees like Todd Flowers to help vital organizations in Dominion Energy’s service territories.
