Zero-Carbon Nuclear Energy

Nuclear power is the workhorse of our zero-carbon fleet, safely providing around-the-clock power to more than 1.5 million homes across Virginia, the Carolinas and New England. We’re extending the lifespan of our nuclear plants for 20 more years, so we can deliver zero-carbon power to our customers for years to come.

Low-Carbon Natural Gas

Our natural gas infrastructure provides heat to more than 3 million American homes, supports American manufacturing and allows us to replace coal and cut carbon emissions in half. Our natural gas electric fleet provides low-carbon energy to 2.8 million more. It also helps us bring more renewables on the grid by keeping the lights on and economy running when wind and solar are not producing power.

Investing in Renewable Natural Gas

We’re partnering with the nation’s largest hog and dairy producers to turn farm waste into clean energy for our customers. It’s called renewable natural gas, and by 2029 these projects will reduce emissions from our nation’s farms by the same amount as taking 650,000 cars off the road or planting 50 million new trees each year.

Reducing Methane Emissions

Our methane emissions reduction program is the most aggressive and sweeping in the nation. We’ve reduced emissions from our gas infrastructure by 25% since 2010, and we’re on track to achieve a 65% reduction by 2030 and 80% by 2040. And through our groundbreaking efforts to capture methane emissions from U.S. farms through our renewable natural gas program, our gas infrastructure business will be net zero by 2040.
