Brandon

When Brandon Aycock began his career in 2005, he didn’t know a lot about natural gas. But he had a hunch that the industry was on the cusp of a transformation. He was right.

Brandon is the manager of the engineering projects team in central and western North Carolina. Lately, he’s also been spearheading the company’s efforts in North Carolina to ensure the environmental sustainability of natural gas through technology with help from Brandon’s colleagues in states like Ohio.

Net Zero
While North Carolina is the latest Dominion Energy natural gas utility using technological innovation this way, it’s not the first or the last. It’s all a part of Dominion Energy’s work to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 for the good of its customers, communities and the climate.

“Innovation has allowed us to have less of an environmental footprint. Clean energy is our duty,” said Brandon. “It’s important that as individuals and as a company, we be mindful of the environment, minimize our impact and leave this place in a better place than we found it.”

Gas Safety

Technological innovation plays a key role in Dominion Energy’s strategy. One example is the use of Zero Emissions Vacuum and Compression (ZEVAC®) technology that keeps methane gas in our system and out of the atmosphere during maintenance and inspection activity. Previously, methane gas was vented into the atmosphere during this type of work.

Dominion Energy deployed ZEVAC® technology in Ohio, West Virginia, then Utah and its gas utilities out West and then North Carolina—with more states to follow. In keeping with the shared value of “One Dominion Energy,” Brandon’s colleagues in Ohio traveled to North Carolina earlier this year to provide hands-on training before ZEVAC® was fully implemented.

“New programs such as ZEVAC® breathe life into energy industries that historically have been stuck in the past,” said Brandon. ZEVAC® is just one of the many transformational tools that will allow us build a better future.”
