Spring is right around the corner but we’re not quite out of heating season just yet. Here are some easy ways to prepare for the spring fever ahead and stay safe too.

Change your furnace filters regularly.

Did you know if you have central air conditioning, your filter also works during the summer months? Most manufacturers recommend changing your filter every three months, but it depends on the system and the filter size. Refer to your HVAC system’s maintenance information to be sure.

Don’t forget to close your windows.

Opening windows during the day to let warm spring air in is a welcome change after months of bitter cold. But don’t forget to close them at night, as temperatures can still drop well below what’s comfortable in your home.

Consider a smart or learning thermostat.

Smart thermostats can learn your behavior and make your HVAC system run on a more efficient schedule.

Check your water heater.

Lowering the temperature setting could keep your unit from turning on as much, which leads to reduced gas usage and lower bills. We rarely use scalding hot water, so you might not notice a difference.

call before you dig

Always call before you dig!

As spring gets underway, we all love to start landscaping and construction projects around the yard. Underground natural gas lines pose a potential hazard for both your safety and the environment. Always call 8-1-1 before beginning any work that requires digging into your yard. Your gas lines, and other utilities, will be marked for you. It’s completely free to you and is required by law.
