If you know anything about golf, you’ve probably heard about Harold Varner III. If you haven’t, you will soon. Varner is a PGA Tour Pro that is making waves in the international golf community. His jaw-dropping win in Saudi Arabia in February, beating out Bubba Watson no less, has made him among the top-50 pros in the world and propelled his career further. While Varner is a rising star to watch, he’s been a star in his community for years.

Varner, a Gastonia, North Carolina native, had his start in a youth program at a municipal golf course. Paying for the program wasn’t easy and those challenges, along the mentorship he received along the way, sparked the idea for the HV3 Foundation.

The HV3 Foundation brings awareness to the rising cost of entry and access in sports, provides mentorship opportunities and financial assistance for equipment and programs to help young athletes pursue their passion. The HV3 Invitational is a special extension of the Foundation. The invitational takes place in Gaston County, where Harold is from, and is an opportunity for him to connect with and inspire high school golfers and give them a chance to compete in a tournament that approximates a professional setting. One hundred and fifty-six young golfers will compete on March 26 and 27.
