Campus Overview

Dominion Energy's expanded Locks Campus will provide economic development and a technology-centered facility to the Greater Petersburg and Central Virginia regions. This site will serve as a living laboratory and innovation hub in our efforts to maintain reliability, meet the evolving energy needs of our customers and help develop the grid of the future. The Locks Campus will support all these efforts as we work with our workforce, community and education partners in embracing the change to a new energy future. Completion of the new facilities is anticipated in 2024.

Locks Campus

Petersburg/Dinwiddie Local Office

The local distribution office provides maintenance, operations, and construction support for electric service in the greater Petersburg area.

High Voltage Laboratory

The innovative High Voltage Lab will enable safe testing of new equipment in an energized environment prior to installing the equipment on the electric transmission grid. The cutting-edge addition will facilitate development of emerging technologies and contribute to smart, research-based investments that improve grid reliability. This will improve the power grid’s reliability and support safe operation for years to come.

Technical Support Building

The Technical Support Building will house labs, learning centers, and support staff offices. Here, we will foster collaborative partnerships with universities and educational institutions to accelerate innovation and improve Dominion’s ability to attract, train, and develop our future workforce.

A microgrid is a local electrical grid that can be connected to a large network but can also function independently if disconnected from the larger grid. As approved under the Company’s 10-year Grid Transformation Plan, we are installing a microgrid driven by solar power and battery storage to study and learn how this promising technology can support critical load centers in the future.
