Electric Transmission Substation

Millrace Substation

Improving the reliability and meeting growing needs in Lexington County.

At Dominion Energy, we are committed to supporting the long-term energy needs of the communities we serve. To continue meeting demand in one of the fastest growing states, and to enhance the reliability and resiliency of our system, we have identified the need for a new substation in West Columbia near Mohawk Drive.

Project Details

Dominion Energy will construct the new Millrace substation to provide additional capacity and improve system reliability. This project will replace existing infrastructure that has been in service for more than 60 years, add redundancies to the grid and reduce the frequency and duration of power outages throughout the area.

The new substation will be located on existing Dominion Energy property along the 1300 block of Mohawk Drive.

  • Complies with mandatory standards to ensure safety, reliability and to meet future needs.
  • Replaces aging infrastructure.
  • Strengthens area reliability.

Community Engagement

Dominion Energy will host a community meeting on Tuesday, October 13, from 4 – 7 p.m. to partner with the community to develop a comprehensive substation design. The meeting will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1201 Mohawk Drive in West Columbia.
