Improving the Reliability and Meeting Growing Needs in Culpeper County

The Culpeper Tech Zone 230 kV Electric Transmission Project will support data center load growth and area reliability in the Culpeper, Orange, and Fauquier County areas.

Project Details

This project includes four components:

  • Building four new substations within the Culpeper Tech Zone and a 230 kV transmission line to connect them to the electrical grid in the Town of Culpeper and Culpeper County.
  • Upgrading 0.7 miles of existing 115 kV transmission line in Faquier County to 240 kV.
  • Upgrading 2.7 miles of existing 115 kV transmission line in Culpeper and Orange Counties to 230 kV.
  • Upgrading and relocating the exiting Oak Green Substation to a parcel nearby its existing location.

On February 20, 2025, Dominion Energy filed an application to construct this project with the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). The SCC issued its' Final Order approving the project on March 12, 2026. Please see the Legal tab for the final approval document and additional details.

Dominion Energy is in the planning or construction phase of several projects in around the Town of Culpeper, notably Cirrus Keyser and Germana. Please visit those links for additional information.
