Third-party contractors perform these checks. They will be in vehicles that clearly show they are approved by Dominion Energy.
Inspectors look for damage such as rot, hollow spots, mold and insects. Finding problems early allows crews to fix or replace poles before they fail. This helps reduce power outages and limits emergency repairs.
How Inspections Work
Wooden poles are inspected on different schedules. Some poles are checked as often as every six years. Most poles are checked every 12 years.
Each year, tens of thousands of poles are inspected. These checks help find potential concerns early and support reliable service for customers.
If a pole needs repair or replacement, it's given a priority and the work is scheduled. This helps prevent issues from leading to outages. After the inspection is finished, the pole is marked with a tag to show that it has been inspected.
