A Dominion Energy Environmental Education and Stewardship grant was awarded to the Eno River Association to prepare the Panther Branch Natural Area for the public to enjoy."Visitors will come away with a greater appreciation for the Eno River and its surrounding areas and why it's important to protect it."
As the Triangle continues to grow, it’s more critical than ever to preserve its natural resources, ecosystems and watersheds.
That’s why Dominion Energy gave The Eno River Association an Environmental Education and Stewardship grant for its newest natural recreational area in Orange County.
Last month, The Eno River Association held a ribbon cutting for the Panther Branch Natural Area, a 56-acre hardwood forest that includes water frontage, 2 miles of trails, fishing areas and picnic areas.
“Local families, as well as visitors from far and wide, will enjoy more than just recreation, but the tranquility and beauty from being away from the hustle and bustle," said Julia Wright, Dominion Energy’s Economic Development and Local Affairs Manager in remarks at the ribbon cutting. “They’ll also come away with a greater appreciation for the Eno River and its surrounding areas and why it’s important to protect it.”
The Panther Branch Natural Area was purchased in 2017 and after a successful fundraising effort, volunteers spent nearly 600 hours getting the site ready.
Dominion Energy provided $30,000 in funding to prepare the park. The Panther Branch Natural Area will be open from dawn to dusk and is anticipated to have over 5,000 visitors in its first year according to The Eno River Association.
