Tom Farrell's contributions to our company and industry
We are excited to recognize the vision and leadership of Tom Farrell, our long-time chair, president and CEO, who passed away in April 2021. He and the Board of Directors always made sure the company and our employees stayed grounded in our values and focused on our core responsibility to serve customers, even while setting the company on course to build a clean-energy future.
To honor Tom’s legacy, we are renaming our corporate headquarters in downtown Richmond – which you may know as 600 Canal Place – in his honor. After today, it will be known as the Thomas F. Farrell II Building.

This is a fitting tribute for Tom. Tom was a passionate champion of Richmond, especially downtown, and he was a passionate champion of our employees. Tom saw 600 Canal, completed in 2019, as not just another office building. For him, it was a modern, energy-efficient gathering place designed to foster the creativity and change our employees need to thrive in the coming years. It was also meant as a symbol of our company’s commitment to Richmond and to all the communities we serve.
We hope that when you drive in downtown Richmond or you look along the skyline over the river, you will take a moment to remember Tom’s contributions to our company and to our industry. We have much to look up to.
