Well before your eye catches the lightning strike illuminating the sky, before the clap of thunder reaches your ears, an entire team of specialists have mobilized and prepared a detailed plan to meet whatever issues arise from Mother Nature's unpredictable fury.

Faby Helme, an Electric Distribution Specialist III, is orchestrating a variety of specialized storm roles across our footprint. In her role on our emergency preparedness team, she ensures that her colleagues are trained and ready for the impacts of the next major weather event, whether it's a hurricane, ice storm, or even just a fast-moving summer storm.

"When there's a storm situation, it can get hectic, and our blood is jumping, and we just care so much about our customers," says Helme. "We want to get their lights back on."

But behind the scenes, Faby's groups operate like well-oiled machines. During a weather event, hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of Dominion Energy teammates spring into action. Faby ensures everyone is on the same page - from the lodging coordinators who make sure our frontline workers have a safe place to sleep when on the road to the work packaging group, who work through the night analyzing and prioritizing outages for crews in the field.

"People in all of our different offices are working long, long shifts," says Helme. "Honestly, every storm I've worked, there is a beautiful sense of comradery that happens. It's really amazing."

“When our customers' lights are out, we are doing absolutely everything we can to get them back on quickly.”

While Faby is making sure our teams are on the same page, she's also overseeing strategic external communications so that the public and our partners are fully informed; from updating our outage maps to collaborating with local municipalities with the latest data.

"When our customers' lights are out, we are doing absolutely everything we can to get them back on quickly," says Helme. "So just that sense of trying to help makes the job all worth it."

So, the next time a storm hits, and you see our line workers bravely and fervently working to restore power, know there are hundreds of tireless hands, like Helme's, behind the scenes, seamlessly orchestrating it all.

Safe, reliable service is a product of true teamwork. Here, we call it One Dominion.
