The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) this week announced Dominion Energy as a recipient of their Emergency Response Award. This award is presented to EEI member companies to recognize recovery and assistance efforts following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. Dominion Energy received the award for its exemplary response after two successive rounds of devastating ice storms hit the Commonwealth in February 2021.

“We know how critical providing our customers with reliable electricity is, particularly when temperatures drop and so many are working and learning at home,” said Charlene Whitfield, senior vice president, power delivery. “We thank our customers for their patience as our teams worked around the clock to get their power restored.”

“I continue to be incredibly proud of our team as they are recognized for their great work and exceptional service to our community,” said Ed Baine president of Dominion Energy Virginia. “Ice storms cause significant damage and present challenging work conditions and our colleagues rose to the occasion to restore power safely, quickly and efficiently.”

The two ice storms, both before and after Valentine’s Day, left more than 300,000 Dominion Energy customers without power with damage reported at more than 9,600 work locations. More than 7,000 crew members from 19 states, Washington DC, and Canada worked around the clock to restore power to customers – some who were impacted by both storms. Restoration for more than 95% of customer outages incurred from the first, and larger storm, was accomplished in just over three days.

“I continue to be incredibly proud of our team as they are recognized for their great work and exceptional service to our community,” said Ed Baine president of Dominion Energy Virginia. “Ice storms cause significant damage and present challenging work conditions and our colleagues rose to the occasion to restore power safely, quickly, and efficiently.”

Awards were determined by a panel of judges following an international nominating process. Dominion Energy’s efforts stood out for their well-executed response in dangerous conditions to restore power particularly during a global pandemic.
