Energizing the Future Partnership

Dominion Energy has joined with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) to launch the Building Hispanic Talent Initiative. This $2 million-dollar three-year initiative will develop Hispanic leaders in the clean/renewable energy industry.

The idea for this initiative began in 2020 when Dominion Energy identified a need to increase the number of Hispanic employees in the energy sector workforce. Believing “actions speak louder,” we got to work to create opportunities for Hispanic students to learn more about energy careers.

"All students should have access to a quality education and be provided with the skills to achieve exciting new career opportunities," said Carter Reid, executive vice president and chief of staff for Dominion Energy. "This is a step toward improving equity for Hispanic students and increasing diversity in STEM careers."

- Carter Reid, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff for Dominion Energy

The Building Hispanic Talent Initiative will provide funding to seven participating post-secondary institutions to work with HACU to implement a Summer Bridge program for pre-college students. It will offer a seven-week educational opportunity for up to 60 high school students (9th-12th grade) at each participating institution, impacting more than 1,250 students and their families.

Energizing the future

The Goals:

  • Increase the number of Hispanic students who are aware of and interested in pursuing careers in STEM and clean energy
  • Share information about careers at Dominion Energy.

In addition to promoting careers in energy, the initiative will also allow students to experience life on a university campus. Each student will receive credit in college-level courses in engineering, business, cybertechnology and biotechnology.

This initiative will begin in the summer of 2022. We will announce information on how to apply in the spring.

Participating Colleges and Universities

“Our new partnership with Dominion Energy is a substantial investment in the success of our Hispanic students in the vital field of energy development and services, an undeniable necessity in ensuring the prosperity of our nation”

-Antonio R. Flores, HACU President and CEO

This initiative builds on our Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Promise Initiative, which committed $25 million to support 11 HBCUs over six years. Programs such as these will allow us to continue building the world class workforce required to fulfill our vision to become the most sustainable energy company in America.
