Targeted Sector Programs
Earn incentives for reducing energy use during peak demand.
Dominion Energy’s Non-Residential Curtailment Program provides eligible business customers with monthly incentive payments for lowering electric demand during times when the grid experiences higher than normal use. By temporarily reducing load, participants help support system reliability while lowering their operational costs.
Generate savings with your business's backup power.
Dominion Energy offers a unique program to reward participating business customers for reducing their electricity use during times when our power grid is experiencing heavier than normal use.
Our Non-Residential Distributed Generation Program partners with interested customers to switch their power source from the Dominion grid to a backup generator for a limited number of hours each year. In return, the customer receives a monthly incentive payment based on their reduced power consumption.
We've partnered with PowerSecure International to implement and manage the program and to issue the incentive payments. We selected PowerSecure because of their extensive experience with installation, remote operation and maintenance of backup generators and associated switchgear.
Key Elements of the Program:
- The program will provide participating customers a monthly incentive to allow their on-site backup generators to be remotely activated by PowerSecure during load curtailment events (a "control event") for up to a total of 120 hours per year.
- The monthly incentive is based on the amount of load curtailed, the amount of fuel consumed during load curtailment events, and/or tests requested by Dominion Energy Virginia during the month.
- Dominion Energy has the right to adjust incentive payments to reflect actual load curtailed.
- All customer enrollments are subject to approval by Dominion Energy Virginia and PowerSecure. Participation is subject to available funding consistent with ongoing approval of this program by the Virginia State Corporation Commission, which is currently approved for a five-year period.
- Customers who participate in the program may not simultaneously participate in any other load curtailment programs or tariffs offered by Dominion Energy Virginia, PJM Interconnection LLC, or any other party.
Eligibility
Non-residential (business) customers of Dominion Energy Virginia are eligible to participate in the program if they meet these qualifications:
- Purchase electricity pursuant to schedules other than Schedule CS, Schedule SG, Schedule 10, Schedule DP-1 or Schedule DP-2.
- Have use of backup generation facilities of 200 kW or greater that are either owned by such customer or that are subject to a lease that is used as a financing instrument to facilitate the sale of such backup generation facilities to such customer.
- Agree to allow Vendor to dispatch such backup generation facilities as directed for up to 120 hours per year. Load curtailment enrolled in this program may not simultaneously be enrolled in a demand response program offered by PJM Interconnection LLC.
Participating customers may be required to install additional electrical metering at their own cost. Participation by a customer is subject to approval by Dominion Energy Virginia and PowerSecure and is subject to available program funding.
If backup generation is currently installed at your non-residential or industrial facility, or if you are planning to install backup generation, you may be eligible to participate in Dominion Energy Virginia's Non-Residential Distributed Generation Program.
