Leading the Country in Offshore Wind

The 2.6-gigawatt project will provide zero-carbon energy to as many as 660,000 customers at peak output.

two offshore wind turbines

When fully constructed in 2026, the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind commercial project will deliver clean, renewable energy to the grid, avoid millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, and help us achieve our goal of Net Zero carbon and methane emissions by 2050.

The two wind turbines currently in operation are the first installed in U.S. federal waters and are avoiding up to 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. CVOW will deliver what our customers want and what the planet needs: clean, reliable, affordable energy.

Quick Project Facts

The wind farm starts 27 miles off the shores of Virginia Beach.

Once fully built, the wind farm could power up to 660K homes.

Once in operation, the wind farm will support 1,100 jobs.

Brings us closer to achieving our net-zero emission goals.

Our Commitments

We are committed to delivering what our customers want and what the planet needs: energy that is clean, reliable, and affordable. Projects like CVOW enable us to deliver on that mission, allowing us to protect the environment while continuing to take care of our customers by providing reliable and affordable energy.

We are committed to building a sustainable energy future, with a plan to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide and methane emissions across our 15 states by 2050. When fully constructed in 2026, the CVOW project will deliver up to 9.5 million megawatt-hours per year of clean, renewable energy to the grid, powering up to 660,000 Virginia homes. Providing this power with wind energy will avoid as much as 5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually — the equivalent of planting more than 80 million trees.

Jobs for Today & Tomorrow

By investing in sustainable energy, our company is creating new avenues for well-paying jobs. An economic-impact analysis by the Hampton Roads Alliance estimates the seven-year impact of the project will amount to roughly $57 million in pay and benefits and $143 million in economic output, generating $5 million in state and local tax revenue.
