Project Details
This project proposes to build a new, double-circuit 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line that would connect two existing transmission lines. Approximately one and a half miles of new right of way is required for this project, and multiple routes are being evaluated that would go through industrial and commercial area. This project will not require new substations.
Public outreach and engagement will start in the fall of 2026. The project requires approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC), and we expect to file an application in early December 2026. Construction is expected to last from mid-2028 through late 2029 with the new lines being in service by the end of 2029.
This project is being designed and constructed to meet today's safety and reliability standards – so you can get the power you need when you need it.

The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) has regulatory authority over all energy providers in Virginia. Among other responsibilities, the SCC validates the need for a proposed line and approves the route and structures. In reviewing a proposed project, the SCC must consider whether potential impacts on scenic assets, historic districts, and the environment have been reasonably minimized.
Once this project is submitted to the SCC, we will post our application and provide a link to the SCC's case docket where you will find documents related to the case, as well as information on how to submit comments.
