Students Learn About Dominion Energy Careers that Don't Require a College Degree
This article is about:
High school seniors spent a day learning about Dominion Energy's rewarding and well-paying career opportunities that do not require a college degree.
More than 40 high school students visited Dominion Energy’s Lake Murray Training Center in March as they plan for life after graduation. They learned about well-paying careers available at Dominion Energy that do not require a college degree.
“There’s a lot of diverse talent in the communities that we serve and we want the next generation of skilled workers to consider all that Dominion Energy has to offer,” said Keller Kissam, President of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “We are working to raise awareness around the broad range of rewarding and well-paying career opportunities right here in their backyard that do not require a college degree.”
That was the message students from Fairfield, Lexington, Orangeburg and Richland counties received from Dominion Energy’s second annual Skilled Crafts Day. They observed skills training for line workers, electricians and other critical jobs in the energy industry. Dominion Energy gave students a real-life look in the areas of electric distribution, natural gas, nuclear, power delivery and power generations also learned about career planning and the job application process.
“We are thankful to Dominion Energy for providing our students with a chance to explore potential career opportunities,” said Robert Craig Washington, principal of Heyward Career and Technology Center in Columbia. “The knowledge and real-world connections are invaluable in supporting students. When industries and schools work together our students win. Thank you, Dominion Energy, for supporting and inspiring our students and hopefully your next generation of employees."
The second annual event is part of Dominion Energy’s sharpened focus on diverse recruitment. Students were selected by their teachers in specific career and technology courses such as welding, automotive technology, diesel, and other classes.

“Just as we work every day to provide safe, reliable energy to our customers in South Carolina, we also work to recruit and retain the best talent to fulfill that mission,” Kissam said. “Events like this help ensure that our workforce looks more like the communities that we serve.”
Dominion Energy employs about 3,700 people in South Carolina. The workforce includes skilled technical positions in electric operations, plant operators in power generation, foresters, environmental science technicians, customer service representatives and more.
