Dominion Energy employees, volunteers, and retirees give back to families in need through the Good Neighbor Fund Christmas Project, now celebrating its 41st year.
With holiday cheer in full gear, Dominion Energy employees, volunteers and retirees prepared more than 1,100 food baskets and 1,000 toys to give to families in need across the company’s service territory as part of the annual Good Neighbor Fund (GNF) Christmas Project.
Established in 1982, the employee-led nonprofit collects employee referrals of families facing hardships and provides them with financial assistance.
“This annual project really shines a light on the love rooted in our company,” said Senior Financial Analyst at Dominion Energy and GNF board member Annette Burnette. “So many of our employees take time out of their lives to be there for people they might not even know, and they are happy to do it. You can see it in their faces.”
Nelly Jolley, Richland School District Two Hispanic outreach coordinator, works in the district’s Skills for Life and Work Program. She builds relationships with families needing financial assistance.
Dominion Energy volunteers wrapped over 1,000 toys for children in South Carolina.
“I get to meet families that allow me to see into their personal lives, and often they worry about providing for their children,” Jolley said. “A lot of these families are starting their new lives in the country, learning English and work skills with our program so they can give their kids a good life. Having the Good Neighbor Fund deliver food kits and toys for these families year after year is incredible. They give these families a Christmas.”
Food baskets included a complete holiday meal. Toys were also provided to families with children.

Javier Santos Maduro, associate business process analyst at Dominion Energy, worked hand in hand with Jolley to gather referrals for the Christmas Project.
“I take projects like this very personally. I grew up in Puerto Rico. When we moved to South Carolina, my family had their own struggles,” Maduro said. “Getting to work for a company that allows us to give back to families going through what my family went through is incredible. It’s the best part of my job.”
Employees donate their own money throughout the year, and every dollar goes toward those receiving assistance from the Good Neighbor Fund.

“I feel so grateful that we can make a difference in the lives of the people we serve,” Maduro said. “Every employee here knows what it’s like to struggle or they know someone struggling. We care so much about our community that we will always do what we can to help and make an impact.”
