Students receive over $500,000 for educational expenses

See how we are supporting educational equity and diversitySixty diverse students across the country can breathe a little easier this school year after being awarded more than $500,000 collectively to help pay for educational expenses as a part of Dominion Energy’s Educational Equity Scholarship Program.
As part of the company’s larger commitment to underrepresented minority students, the HBCU Promise, these scholarships are the first in a six-year, $10 million initiative to support and diversify higher-education graduates.
Between the sixty recipients, those enrolled in two-years schools are receiving $5,000 each. Students enrolled in four-year schools are receiving $10,000 each. All recipients can renew their scholarships as they successfully progress through school and meet certain academic criteria.
Here’s a breakdown of our 2021 Dominion Energy Educational Equity Scholars:
Dominion Energy is honored to assist these scholars in achieving higher education in pursuit of professional advancement and personal dreams.
“I cannot express how grateful I am for Dominion Energy for investing in my future,” said Howard University student, Wisdom Talley, in an Instagram post. “As a thank you, I created a string art version of their logo. Thank you so much, Dominion Energy.”
“Getting into the college of my dreams was a blessing, but it came with the exorbitant cost and the fear of leaving my family and Virginia,” says University of Virginia student, Esteban Vizcaino. “Your extreme generosity has helped alleviate these fears and pressures and is truly life-changing.”
“I am truly honored and appreciate receiving a scholarship from the Dominion Energy Educational Equity Scholarship Program,” says Furman University medical student, Morgan Locklear. “Your generosity is helping making this opportunity possible for me.”
“I’m deeply honored and thankful for receiving this scholarship,” says Virginia Commonwealth University student Htoomyat Zeyar. “It makes my mom so happy.”
“Going into this year, I was really worried about financial aid. Both my parents had lost their part-time jobs in addition to their regular ones,” says Furman University student Clinton Washington III in an interview with ABC Columbia. “This took a huge burden off of me and has leveled the playing field. Thank you so much.”
