To start your new Dominion service, you'll need the following information handy:

  • Complete address
  • Social Security number (yours and your spouse's)
  • Driver's license number (proof of ID may be required)
  • Current occupant name or meter number if service is already active

Tips for Starting or Adding an Additional Service

Provide advance notice

We recommend at least 7 business days in advance, but please provide as much notice as possible so we can schedule the request for the date  you need. Orders are worked Monday through Friday only (excluding holidays), from 8 AM to midnight. If an adult is required to be present to provide access to the property, 4-hour time-frames may be available. The time- frames are AM (8 AM to noon), PM (noon to 4 PM.) and evening (4 PM to 8 PM). The availability of an evening time-frame varies by location.

Property/Meter access

If your meter is turned off, located indoors, or obstructed by fences, trees, shrubs, buildings, or animals, an adult (18 or older) must be available to provide access to the inside of the property. For security and liability reasons, we won't enter a property unless accompanied by an adult. If your service is on and the meter is located outside, or if this is a new construction and we are installing a meter for the first time, you won't need to be home when service is started.

Electric service

Electric service does not need to be on if this is a new construction and we are installing a meter for the first time. In all other instances, electric service needs to be on and we're required to light at least one appliance in the home.

Connection fees

There is a connection fee of $30 to start service. The appropriate charge will appear on your first bill. A security deposit may be required to start service, depending on your credit history.
