The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs.
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) assists eligible households with the cost of home heating through direct cash payments or payments to utility companies on their behalf.
This program assists certain eligible participants in receiving a 20% discount from their electric and/or gas company.
Weatherization Assistance
The West Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) manages the state's weatherization assistance program to help reduce energy costs with improvements like insulation, using funds from the U.S. Department of Energy, LIHEAP and utility partnerships.
OEO contracts with community agencies that employ trained weatherization crews to install insulation, reduce air infiltration, and perform heating and cooling tune-ups and modifications. When appropriate, they also replace heating units for energy efficiency and safety. Education is also provided on use and maintenance.
Other Funds
The Dominion Energy Foundation contributes to a variety of fuel funds managed by social service charities or state agencies: EnergyShare in Virginia, Operation Fuel in Connecticut, Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund, North Shore Community Action Programs, Inc. in Massachusetts, and the Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Fund are a few examples.
