Thousands of Dominion Energy employees work hard every day to keep our customers connected and satisfied. Unfortunately, there are deceptive scammers out there working just as hard. Please follow the tips below to ensure that you’re interacting with a verified Dominion Energy employee, whether by phone, email, or in person.

In Person

We Normally:

  • Travel in Dominion Energy marked vehicles
  • Carry Dominion Energy ID badges with photo
  • Wear official Dominion Energy uniforms (typically blue or gray)
  • Enter homes by request to light gas pilot lights

We Never:

  • Collect money or financial information from a customer at their home or place of business
  • Ask for a customer’s identification or social security card
  • Enter homes to perform electric service work

Be Aware:

  • If you doubt the legitimacy of a visitor to your home or business, Contact Us immediately or call local law enforcement

On the Telephone

We Normally:

  • Call prior to service work to ensure meter accessibility or provide schedule updates

We Never:

  • Ask you to settle balances with prepaid debit cards
  • Ask you to verify financial information or give your full social security number

Be Aware:

  • Scammers target both homes and businesses, and they can "spoof" or display a false caller ID

By E-mail

We Normally:

  • Send bill notices, reminders and confirmations based on your account preferences

We Never:

  • Ask you to reply to an e-mail or visit a web page to enter financial information such as bank account or credit card numbers, or your social security number

Be Aware:

  • Scammers can create an email address that looks similar to an official Dominion Energy address. For example, an official email from Dominion Energy could come from an address ending in @dominionenergy.com – a scammer might create a similar looking address that substitutes letters for numbers, such as @d0min1onenergy.com
