A Line Upgrade Project in Fairfield & Richland Counties, SC
We are planning to construct an 18-mile 230 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line from VC Summer to Denny Terrace and Pineland.
We have identified an aging electric transmission line, which has been in operation for over five decades. This aging line, which is known as the VCS – Denny Terrace and Pineland 230 kV, originate in Fairfield County at the VC Summer Nuclear Plant and end in Richland County at the Denny Terrace and Pineland substations. This rebuild project is 22 miles in length and will be done exclusively on existing right of way along an existing transmission corridor.
We will replace the existing 230 kilovolt (kV) wooden poles along this 22-mile corridor with self-supporting galvanized steel structures. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability and resiliency to the areas along the route. The rebuilt lines will be constructed by Dominion Energy contractors.
The engineering design and environmental permitting began in the summer of 2020 and will continue through 2021. Line construction is expected to start in the 1st quarter of 2022 and will continue into the 3rd quarter of 2023.
