Replace Old Infrastructure and Build To Current Reliability Standards
After more than six decades of operation, the wooden H-frame structures and associated components along the nearly six mile line from our New Road Substation to our Middleburg Substation in Prince William, Fauquier and Loudoun counties need to be replaced in order to maintain reliability for our customers.
Benefits
Timeline (View Full Timeline)
There may be some traffic delays.
Noise levels will be minimal; permits are in place.
This project will not have environmental impacts.
Access to surrounding neighborhoods will not be impacted.
The New Road-Middleburg 115 kV line was originally built in 1953 using wooden H-frame structures. Although the line and its components have been well-maintained, they are at the end of their service life and need to be replaced to maintain reliability for over 9,000 customers served by the Middleburg Substation.
Because this transmission line is the only one providing power to Middleburg Substation, we will need to install a temporary transmission line to maintain reliable power for our customers while we work in the area. This temporary line will be dismantled at the end of the project.
