Based on an ongoing review of its electric system, Dominion Energy is planning to upgrade an existing transmission line located near Harbison Boulevard in Columbia. This project is critical to the continued reliability and resiliency of the electric system in the Midlands area. Upgrading the electrical structures along the transmission line will harden the system and enhance reliability to homes, businesses and schools, preventing future potential outages.

Linemen fixing overhead lines

Dominion Energy will replace approximately 78 wood transmission poles with 74 new steel self-supporting poles along an existing 4.5 mile long, 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission line.

The existing poles will be replaced near their current locations and will typically range from 10 feet to 15 feet taller than the existing poles.

Line construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021 and be completed by year end.

The line begins at Lake Murray Transmission Substation near the Lake Murray Dam in Lexington County. It runs along the Lower Saluda River and then turns north and runs along Harbison Boulevard.
