To continue to meet the growing demand for safe and reliable energy across South Carolina, Dominion Energy will be rebuilding an existing electric Transmission line in North Charleston where the line crosses the Ashley River. The rebuild is part of an ongoing initiative to rebuild lines that have reached the end of their usable life and need to be replaced to ensure the integrity of the line.

The scope of the project is to rebuild the existing wooden transmission line as it traverses through the marsh and crosses the Ashley River. Dominion Energy South Carolina will replace the existing wooden Transmission line with self-supporting galvanized steel structures. The new line will be constructed by a contractor of Dominion Energy and will be designed to meet all modern electric codes to help provide a more resilient and reliable electric feed in the Lowcountry.

Line construction is expected to happen in the fall of 2020 and will last several months. It is important to note that the start date is subject to change as the System Controllers monitor the load in the area and other system work happens at the same time.

The project will begin at the end of Apple Street in the Wando Woods neighborhood in North Charleston and will conclude just on the Western side of the Ashley River.

There are no expected impacts to vehicular traffic patterns; however there may be slight impacts to boating traffic in the Ashley River as crews safely construct the line across the river.
