A Line Rebuild Project in Calhoun County, SC
We are planning to rebuild the 46 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line in Calhoun County, South Carolina.
After being in operation for over five decades, an aging electric transmission line needs to be rebuilt. This aging line, known as the Calhoun County – St. Matthews 46 kV, is 10 miles in length and will be rebuilt exclusively on existing rights-of-way.
We will be replacing the existing 46 kilovolt (kV) wooden poles with self-supporting galvanized steel structures. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability and resiliency to the areas along the route. The rebuilt lines will be constructed by Dominion Energy contractors.
The engineering design and environmental permitting began in the first quarter of 2021 and will continue throughout the year. Line construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2022 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2022. Letters will be sent out to impacted property owners along the route as DESC gets closer to construction.
