As part of our focus on expanding the Dominion Energy solar energy program, our Solar for Students program provides students the chance to observe and learn firsthand about harnessing solar energy from a solar array. Participating public schools and educational organizations receive a 1.2 kilowatt solar system that converts sunlight into electric power, as well as educational materials and training for educators.

Students will be able to track the generation of electric power by viewing their system's data online and can challenge other participating schools around the world to a solar power match to see who generates the most.

The National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) administers the program by providing technical support, coordinating the installation of solar panels, preparing educational materials for students and training for teachers.

We are very excited about the success of the program, which has grown from our initial 2015 pilot of four (4) schools to our current roster of thirty-four (34) participants. View the latest news release about the program.

Each year, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation reviews and considers grant programs that best meet the needs of the communities we serve. We look forward to the continued success of our current Solar for Students participants, and will revisit the possibility of offering solar arrays to additional schools and educational nonprofit organizations with STEM programming in the near future.
