Mainline

The mainline is usually located under the street or in the tree lawn area and transports gas to the service line.

Service Line

The service line runs from the mainline to meter.

House Line

The house line runs from your meter into the building and branches off to other pipes that are connected to appliances or equipment.

  • Dominion is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the mainline and service line.
  • Customers are responsible for maintenance and repairs of the house line.

The following information is for gas line installers performing work in Dominion Energy's Ohio Gas Operations service territory. For questions on installing gas service in Dominion Energy's Ohio gas service territory, call 888-619-0786.

Dominion Energy Ohio is currently responsible for the installation of all residential, commercial and industrial gas service lines (from the street to the gas meter) at no cost to the customer.

At this time, developers, builders and customers do not have the option to hire a contractor of their choice to install the gas service line. However, Dominion Energy Ohio will honor service agreements received prior to October 1, 2016.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Dominion Energy Ohio at 888-619-0786 between 7 AM and 7 PM Monday through Friday, or via email at OhioConstructionSupport@dom.com.

House Line Installation Standards

With the passage of the Ohio Minimum Service Standards for Natural Gas Customers, Service Line Installers will be required to provide proof that the house line has been tested at a minimum of 1-1/2 times the operating pressure, but not less than 3 lbs., for 10 minutes. To accomplish this, a new form, the Houseline Installation Record (HIR), is being introduced.

All house piping installed in Dominion Energy's service territory shall be installed in accordance with the "National Fuel Gas Code" (NFPA 54) and/or the "International Fuel Gas Code," latest editions.

Call Before You Dig

By law, everyone must contact the Ohio Utility Protection Service (OUPS) at 811 at least two, but no more than ten working days before beginning a digging project of any type. Once contacted, an OUPS member will attempt to mark utility lines prior to excavation. This is a free service.
