Greenwich-Burton 115 kV Rebuild Project
The Greenwich-Burton 115 kV rebuild project will replace aging infrastructure on an existing electric transmission corridor that extends from our Greenwich Substation to our Burton Substation in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
- Pre-construction activities began in September 2018.
- Add needed capacity to serve local residents and businesses.
- Improve overall reliability for the community.
Dominion Energy currently operates 115 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission lines that provide critical electric service from our Greenwich Substation to our Burton Substation in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The existing 115 kV electric transmission lines were built in this corridor using double-circuit, brown, weathering steel structures in 1964. We will rebuild the existing electric transmission lines with double-circuit, galvanized steel monopole structures in accordance with current electrical and safety practices. The proposed 115 kV structures will average 15 feet taller than the existing structures. No new right of way is needed for this project.
The 3.6-mile lines extend from our Greenwich Substation to our Burton Substation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The new double-circuit, galvanized steel monopole structures will be located near each existing structure, just outside the existing footprint. The existing structures will be removed, and the foundations will be demolished just below grade.
