LEED certification

Two Dominion Energy office locations recently achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver-level certification rating.

The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is an internationally recognized green building certification system, which provides third-party verification that a building is constructed in an environmentally sustainable manner. LEED measures energy savings, water efficiency, carbon emissions reduction, improved indoor air quality and stewardship of resources.

Western Area Headquarters for Dominion Energy Transmission Inc. (DETI) and Dominion Energy Ohio’s Lima facility both achieved Silver-level certification.

The $14 million Lima project features a campus-like setting with nearly 30,000 square feet of workspace, divided between two buildings. The certification is being awarded to the 13,866 square-foot administration building which features such amenities as standing work stations and individual task lighting for ergonomical comfort, an exercise room, a nursing mothers’ room and multiple thermostat zones.

“Dominion Energy Ohio is proud to have attained LEED Silver certification,” said Jim Eck, vice president and general manager - Ohio and West Virginia Distribution. “This exemplifies our commitment to providing a safe and healthy work space for our colleagues and being environmentally responsible and sustainable.”

DETI’s Western Area Headquarters is 16,500 square feet, and is Dominion Energy’s second facility in Pennsylvania and tenth overall since 2008 that has achieved a LEED certification, with two more buildings expected to earn certification in the very near future. The building features a reflective roof to reduce heat absorption, low-emitting adhesives, sealants, paints and furniture, and more than thirty percent in energy savings because of building’s energy efficient design.

“Dominion Energy Transmission is proud to have attained LEED Silver certification,” said Bill Ruffner, director – Western Area Transmission Operations. “This is yet another example of our commitment to providing a safe and healthy work space for our colleagues and being environmentally responsible and sustainable.”
