2018 Charity Classic Raises More than $1.2 Million for Charity
Dominion Energy and the PGA TOUR recently announced that the 2018 Dominion Energy Charity Classic golf tournament generated more than $1.2 million to benefit Richmond-area charities.
“As its name suggests, the Charity Classic is all about goodwill and good works,” said chairman, president and CEO Tom Farrell. “That is why our company sponsors the event: We believe in helping others.”
The tournament’s primary beneficiaries – the Richmond Fisher House and the Virginia Values Veterans Services Foundation – serve veterans and their families. The Richmond Fisher House provides free housing for family members of veterans receiving treatment at the McGuire Holmes VA Hospital. The Virginia Values Veterans Services Foundation helps provide career opportunities for veterans transitioning into the civilian sector.
More than 140 other local charities also will receive a portion of these funds through the Birdies for Charity program, which gives charities an opportunity to generate contributions through flat donations or based on the number of “birdies” made by PGA TOUR Champions players during the tournament. The PGA TOUR then adds a 10 percent bonus to all donations made through the program.
