Nearly 60 volunteers from Dominion Energy, Halifax Regional Medical Center and the Town of Garysburg, N.C., recently joined together to install a walking track, assemble a playground and build benches to support the mission of the Roanoke Valley, N.C., Healthy Communities Initiative.

The project began with a ribbon cutting on the new track, after which community members and volunteers ran an inaugural lap. In addition, a partnership with Sabra Dipping Co., based in Colonial Heights, Va., offered grab-and-go samples to learn about healthy foods during the community celebration.

Garysburg Mayor Roy Bell volunteered his time to support the event and noted that the enhancements will enable local children and seniors to have a safe place to enjoy and play in the outdoors.

Dominion Energy serves more than 122,000 electric customers in northeastern North Carolina.
