Belvoir – Van Dorn Partial Rebuild

This project will address aging electric transmission infrastructure and increase reliability in Fairfax County.

Project Details

Belvoir-Van Dorn is an electric transmission project in the Alexandria/Hayfield area of Fairfax County in the Franconia and Mount Vernon Districts. This project is necessary to replace aging equipment, many of which were built in the 1960's. The rebuild will involve replacing most of the structures along these lines between the Belvoir and Van Dorn Substations, in addition to reconductoring.

The new structures and lines will remain in the existing right of way (ROW) and the lines will continue to be 230 kilovolts (kV). Public outreach and engagement will start in spring of 2026 with a target State Corporation Commission (SCC) filling date in the summer of 2026. Construction is targeted to begin at the end of 2027 and be in-service by 2029.

We're designing and constructing this project to meet today's safety and reliability standards - so you can get the power you need, when you need it.
