Chesapeake Energy Center
All four generating units were retired from service at the end of 2014.
The four generating units were among a dozen oil units converted by the company to burn coal – the largest coal conversion program in the nation.
With the retirement of the coal units and in compliance with the EPA’s 2015 regulation requiring closure of ash ponds, Dominion Energy has initiated activities at the station site to close a small ash pond.
The closure process will be regulated by DEQ and fully protective of the Elizabeth River, the environment and the community.
In addition, an ash landfill onsite will be closed consistent with state regulations.
