The aging infrastructure was built between 1962 and 1980. This power line needs to be rebuilt to keep power reliable for customers. Customer power needs are rising in Virginia. More generation (otherwise known as energy supply) is coming to meet those needs.
No. This project proposes to move the existing lines onto the new poles. Only the wires on the transmission line all the way from Basin to Chesterfield will be upgraded.
Dominion Energy plans to use a safety net for wires that cross over highways like I-95 and 288. This is a construction method that reduces traffic disruptions. The safety net is temporarily installed above the road, underneath wires. The wires can be safely removed and installed while traffic moves below.
The transmission structures are expected to be rebuilt near the existing line. Existing space will be used, but there are some areas that need additional right of way. If additional right of way is needed on your property, a Real Estate representative will contact you.
