Impacts

Legal

The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) is responsible for verifying the need, determining the route, and reviewing the environmental impact of certain transmission lines in Virginia. Dominion Energy plans to file an application with the SCC for this project. After filing, documents related to the case will be available to the public on the SCC website. Key filing documents will also be available on this page.

On 3/7/25, Dominion Energy filed its application with the SCC. Documents related to the case are available to the public on the SCC Docket of the SCC website or search by Case No. PUR-2025-00042 in the " Search Cases " section. In addition, interested parties may visit the SCC Case Comments Page where individual mailboxes are available for each case accepting public comments. Please note, the mailbox may not be available until a scheduling order is issued, typically several weeks after an application is filed.

FAQs

To support recent growth within the White Oak Technology Park, a new double-circuit 230 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission source is needed to meet the new power needs, maintain federal reliability rules, and keep the grid operating efficiently.
Our project team will focus on public outreach in fall 2024 to ensure all interested community members are aware of the project and have an opportunity to share feedback with our team as we continue the planning process. We intend to file an application with the SCC in early 2025.

The SCC is the regulatory body with jurisdiction over transmission lines in Virginia. Since this project is proposing to build a new 230 kV infrastructure, it meets the criteria to be reviewed by the SCC. Dominion Energy intends to file an application in 2025.

Although the SCC is the primary agency reviewing and ultimately approving the project, there may be additional permits needed from local, state, and federal agencies.

We want to hear your feedback. The purpose of our public engagement is to share, listen and learn from our community members. The SCC also considers public input in its review process. There are multiple ways to share your feedback with our team:

Interested community members are welcome to request a separate meeting with our team. Whether you have a scheduling conflict during the community meeting date, would like to discuss your property specifically, or would like to continue a discussion with our team following the community meeting, we are available for additional meetings by request.
