Summerville Loop

Project Overview

Summerville loop

At Dominion Energy, we are dedicated to finding the best solution for the long-term energy needs within the communities we serve. As we remain focused on reliability and resiliency, we have identified several transmission lines in Dorchester County in need of replacement. Replacing the existing poles and equipment will enhance wind resistance during severe weather and provide more reliable and resilient power to the greater Summerville area.

Dominion Energy and its contractors will replace eight miles of 115-kilovolt (kV) wooden structures with self-supporting galvanized steel poles. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability to our customers. The rebuilt lines will be constructed by contracted crews and will be on existing right of way.

Letters will be sent out to impacted property owners along the route as DESC progresses through its construction.

Benefits

  • Maintains current right of way
  • New structures located in the same general location as existing structures
  • Complies with mandatory standards to ensure safety, reliability and to meet future needs
  • Minimizes impact to the community and environment
  • Replaces aging infrastructure

Timeline

  • Construction will begin in early 2025 and continue until the end of the year. In addition to weekdays and normal work hours, weekend work hours may be necessary to meet critical project schedules.
